2012 4/2-7 Urban Renewal Renewal Manual Labor & Events – Alliance for Victims of Urban Renewal (Shilin, Taipei Area)

For anyone out of the loop, the biggest news in Taipei lately has been the demolition of the Wang family house in Shilin, part of an ongoing expansion of urban renewal. The news is out there for you to search (here is one) and if it should so behoove you, you are welcome to join in a community that wants to clear out the rubbish and build up the home again. I have not headed out there myself since the morning of the incident.

Language proficiency best to be around 3 or above unless you have a pal. Take orders in HanYu but I think being able to voice your own in case something happens is important too.

Location: Wang Family “Plot” – just take the MRT to Shilin, exit 1 and follow the tracks up north for about 3 minutes and stop when you see a site full of rubbish. Map that bad boy here!

Time & Date: April 2-6th (Monday through Friday) starting at 1:00pm.

Daily Rundown and Task:

1:00 – 1:30 pm – Itinerary for the day, division of tasks (manual labor, a variety of things, if you do not feel comfortable engaging in a task requested, let them know)

1:30 – 5:00 pm – WORK!

5:00 – 6:30 pm – Discussion of blueprint and recap of the day’s progress

6:30 – 7:00 pm – Foods, welcome to bring. No SWEAT NO EAT!
IMPORTANT:

Everyone is responsible for their own safety so do take precaution when joining in. Light sturdy clothing, solid thick sole work boots, gloves. If you’ve got a cart, shovel, etc, bring!

Facebook event here

In addition, here is a lineup of activities at the site with talks from prominent speakers, other urban renewal victims, land rights lawyers, students, etc. Daily! You will need to be able to understand Hanyu so proficiency 3 required.
