The organization is looking for stable, long term volunteers (approx dedicate 3 hours a week) to work on editing .wav files they have transferred from their cassettes to digital formats. Their current audio books can be preserved far better on a digital format than the worn and much used cassettes that have limited shelf lives. Currently only a small portion, about 10% have been transferred.
These are such wonderful sources of knowledge that have provided much information and enjoyment to not only the visually impaired, but also senior citizens.
Language capability: Level proficiency is higher at Level Four and Level Five because you need to understand training, and listen to the file then write down the first and last sentence you hear before you edit it (they want to cut digital files into 15 minute snippets). They are supposedly letting me write out ㄅㄆㄇㄈ if there are some words I can’t write but they said as long as they can kind of make it out, should be fine.
Commitment period: Long term preferred to at least finish a “book’s worth” also because there is training involved that may take a session or two, pending on your speed. They are asking for about 2-3 hours a week which isn’t much.
Skills: Basic command of PC and they will provide the basic training in audio editor programs such as GoldWave. No prior experience needed, just passion and willingness to learn.
Description: Editing organization’s Audio Library
Time: Monday through Friday 10:00-18:00 ; Saturdays 9:00-17:00
We welcome you to come at anytime between those hours
Address: No. 2, 19F, Chungshan Road, Section 1 (close to Taipei Main Station Exit 7)
Telephone: 02-2371 1867
Let me know if you want to go – I went to one session a week ago, admittedly was a bit overwhelmed but want to try to finish a book. I have to get back to them on when I am going again, but prefer to head over with others so that they can train us together instead of one at a time. Email me or leave a comment!
